17TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY OF SYMBIOSIS INTERNATIONAL (DEEMED) UNIVERSITY
17th of December 2020 marked another big day for the SLSH family. The family witnessed the graduation of the 2020 Batch as young lawyers of outstanding capability.
The ceremony although was virtual owing to the ongoing pandemic, it was adorned by eminent personalities whose words of motivation boosted the confidence of the young minds- ready to conquer the field with vigour and brilliance.
Dr. Anita Patankar, the esteemed Director of Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts (and the Deputy Director at the Symbiosis Centre for International Education), began the ceremony by greeting and welcoming the students to the 17th Convocation Ceremony of Symbiosis International (Deemed) University. Dr. Rajani Gupte delivered the Annual University Report for the academic year of 2019-20 which highlighted different success stories of so many brilliant students of India and abroad. Students of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad also made a mention in the pages for the excellent performances of the students. This was a pride-filled moment for all of us at the SLSH family and a boost in the trust and faith of the thousands of students in the pillars of Symbiosis and all those candidates who are willing to apply next year!
The Ceremony was graced by Dr. K. Kasturiran, the Chairman of the New Education Policy 2020 and the Hon’ble Chief Guest for the evening. He praised the work of our beloved Chancellor for imparting higher education to students not only from India but from 85 different countries. He appreciated the initiatives of the university in providing scholarships to the meritorious foreign students who deserve it. He gave more insight into how the new education system might look like. He not only reminded us of the importance of education in shaping the country’s future but made us realise the priceless contribution of Universities like Symbiosis and the contribution of professors and teachers in shaping the lives of so many young lives of India. His words of inspiration re-energised the students to keep up their faith in these trying times. He concluded his speech by wishing the graduates a happy professional and personal life.
Then the ceremony moved on to the Honorary D. Litt. Award (Doctor of Letters) upon eminent individuals who have proven their expertise, scholarship and overall contribution to making the world a better place. This year the award was bestowed upon Mr. Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India for his immense contribution towards research on CoVid-19 vaccine and medicines.
Dr. S. B. Mujumdar, the Founder of the dream “Symbiosis International University” and “Symbiosis Law School” back in 1970, whose endeavor has made Symbiosis, one of the best universities for law delivered his key address to the thousands of students. His words of wisdom encouraged students across disciplines to hold tight to their dreams even in times of hardship. He addressed the audience and spoke about how many things had happened in the world and the university even in midst of a pandemic. He appreciated the concept of ‘aatmanirbhar’ propounded by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as he considers self-reliance to be an important factor in our lives. He congratulated and gave his blessings to all the graduating students.
The Ceremony concluded with the blessings of all those who graced the Ceremony. With hearty congratulations to all the students who graduated into their respective fields, this ceremony is a fresh breeze in this trying time.
