Interview with Prof. Pankaj Umbarkar
“Best Law School to teach at…”, says Prof. Pankaj Umbarkar
Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad is one of the best law schools in the world, where the idea of ‘One Family’ is nourished through its vision and mission. The campus is adorned with students from all over the country which makes my experience enriching. The students are dynamic and full of energy that my classes translate into a learning experience for me, each day. By adopting various methods of pedagogy by encapsulating both the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject, to inculcate an interest within the student. Organising field trips and inviting experts in the field for lectures, not only helps the student gain a better understanding but also helps me increase my existing knowledge. Moreover, in heading the Events Committee of the institution and two centres, CSCLS and CAIL, has helped me in advancing knowledge and understanding in the field of cyber and international law, outside the purview of the regular academic curriculum. There is a constant continuous process of learning and teaching and this I believe is what helps me grow professionally sound, driving me to constantly strive harder and do my part in participative learning.
On the personal level, despite the campus being located at the outskirts of Hyderabad city, it has a positive effect on me, my family. The campus helps us reconnect with nature. The environment of the campus is holistic and wholesome. The students grow together during their five years on campus, and it truly reflects the motto of the university, i.e., The World is One Family. It does not allow any person to lose out on any opportunity of personal interests and constantly encourages the person to strive towards achieving it. Further, given the diverse culture on campus, it ensures that it celebrates every festival and any day of importance to every student. It celebrates local, national, and international festivals. The campus thereby, is all-inclusive for an over-all wholesome experience.
